  • Brewing System History

When we began our search for a brewing system in 2012, there were several factors to consider. First, ordering a new system is expensive and requires about a 4 month lead time. Second, because of the first consideration, used brewing systems are in high demand and aren’t necessarily much cheaper than a new system.

We decided we didn’t want to wait 4 months if we didn’t have to, so the search began for a used brewing system. After checking out several used systems, we found one in excellent condition and in our budget out of Detroit, Michigan.

    Moving

The previous owners allowed us to breakdown and disconnect everything ourselves. This gave us a chance to label every pipe, fitting, connection and electrical component before breaking it down. Some of the other used systems at which we looked had already been broken down with reciprocating saws and put into storage without any labels at all.

In October 2012, the partners headed to Detroit and began breaking down the entire brewing system. It took several days and late nights to label everything and break it down in an orderly fashion.

Getting the tanks themselves out of the restaurant they were in was an expensive and harrowing process. Some of the restaurant had actually been built around the tanks after they were installed, which made getting them out that much more difficult.

The tanks are so large, they required shipment on several semi trucks.
